Broadband investment for Northern Rail services
A £750,000 investment into the provision of new superfast broadband services has been announced by Northern Rail for travellers on its services between Leeds and Bradford.
The money has been delivered as part of a joint venture between Northern Rail, Leeds City Council, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, all in partnership with the government's superfast rollout programme Broadband Delivery UK, Bdaily reports.
Rail users will now be able to access download speeds of up to 20 Mbps while using local rail services.
Rob Warnes, Planning and Programmes Director for the rail services provider, said: "We've seen a great take-up in the onboard Wi-Fi, registering over 100,000 users so far and customers have been telling us they love the speed as well as the content."
His comments were echoed by Councillor James Lewis, who added that adding free Wi-Fi for rail users is opening up more opportunities for people to be productive while on the go and is a significant boon for the area.
