New digital infrastructure taskforce created

Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey has launched a new Digital Infrastructure Implementation Taskforce.

Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey has announced the creation of a new Digital Infrastructure Implementation Taskforce, which will examine methods for the universal rollout of superfast broadband across the nation.

Mr Vaizey will chair the new taskforce and will work alongside other ministers and members of the communications industry to help to achieve this ambitious goal during the coming five years.

The commitment to better broadband connectivity for the whole of the UK formed a key part of pre-election pledges from the Conservative Party and this group will now look at the best ways to achieve this.

Just three years remain of the ongoing Broadband Delivery UK framework, which has the target of achieving 95 per cent broadband coverage for the UK as a whole. It is therefore the remaining five per cent of the UK's most hard-to-reach areas that will now be the key focus of this new taskforce.
