Reading homes to benefit from fibreoptic broadband
Residents in Reading will soon have the option of gigabit broadband connections, after internet supplier Hyperoptic Broadband selected the town to be one of six 'hyper-cities' in the country.
Get Reading reports the firm has set up an office in the area to provide customer support and has promised that its service will enable users to download a HD film in less than 30 seconds and a 50GB game in under seven minutes.
After being founded in 2011, Hyperoptic has been aiming to offer one gig fibre broadband to residential apartments and flats.
Having started in London, it is now also focusing on Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and Leeds.
Head of Sales Philip Cooper said: "Reading is a very important area for us. The population density is there along with the demand for high-speed broadband.
He also described the region as forming part of the "tech corridor" and considered it to be a "gateway to the west".
