Broadband boost for Leicestershire residents
Homes and businesses in Leicestershire will receive a boost to broadband services in the coming months following the announcement of a new tranche of funding for network improvements.
An additional £9.2 million is to be invested in the Superfast Leicestershire partnership as part of a new multi-million pound extension to the Broadband Delivery UK contract between network provider BT, Leicestershire County Council and the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.
This latest tranche of funding will now help to deliver download speeds of up to 24 Mbps to up to 54,000 Leicestershire properties by March 2016.
BT Regional Director Steven Henderson said the Superfast Leicestershire partnership has delivered real benefits to tens of thousands of homes and businesses across the county so far, but plans remain in the pipeline to deliver an even wider reach for the scheme.
"We're delighted to have been selected by the council to work with them to extend that reach even further in the coming years," he added.
