Broadband requirement for new Cheshire developments

Thursday, May 7th 2015 by Editorial
New developments in the area of Cheshire East will be required to include broadband infrastructure as standard.

All new developments to be considered for planning approval by Cheshire East Council must now include provisions for the installation of broadband services from the outset, the local authority has stated.

Delivering broadband-ready developments has been placed as a high priority by the council and will ensure future residents in the area are able to connect to the latest online services as soon as they move in, Insider Media reports.

Caroline Simpson, the council's director of economic growth and prosperity, said: "We will encourage developers to work with broadband providers to ensure that future occupants have access to the best possible connectivity."

She added that placing the priority on infrastructure installation at the design phase not only guarantees broadband access for homeowners, it is also more cost-effective for builders and means properties do not require retrofitting at a later date.
