BT could tie up all remaining fibre broadband deals by end of August
Every British council could reach individual deals with BT to carry out fibre optic broadband rollouts by the end of this summer.
Speaking to PC Pro, the telecoms giant's Managing Director for Next Generation Access Bill Murphy confirmed that the company is "actively engaged" with every council and aims to tie up the remaining contracts in the coming weeks.
Commenting on the day that BT was named as the preferred provider for the East Sussex broadband contract, Mr Murphy noted that government agency Broadband Delivery UK is eager for the final agreements to be sealed by August.
"We're working real hard to get the job done. These are all complex and challenging contracts and there's a lot of work to be done," he explained.
Although BT looks to be the only company likely to bid for the outstanding contracts following Fujitsu's decision to quit the process, Mr Murphy insisted this is not a foregone conclusion.
"I can't be 100 per cent sure Fujitsu won't be at the next one," he stressed.
