BT reaches 100,000 Bristol properties with fibre broadband rollout
BT's fibre optic broadband rollout in Bristol has reached a milestone, with more than 100,000 homes and businesses in the south-west city now able to access the service.
Hotwells and Redcliffe have become the latest local communities to benefit from the £2.5 billion commercial deployment, following hot on the heels of Bedminster, Easton, Eastville, Fishponds, Henbury and Stoke Bishop, reports the Bristol Post.
The telecoms giant is already planning upgrades for Avonmouth and Westbury-on-Trym later this year, by which time the number of properties in Bristol served by BT's fibre broadband network will have passed the 130,000 mark.
Expanding all the time, BT's super-fast broadband infrastructure is due to reach two-thirds of UK properties - representing approximately 19 million homes and businesses - during spring 2014.
The announcement comes three months after BT's rollout reached more than 100,000 premises in Cardiff. This milestone was reached when the service went live in the Roath area.
