BT rolls out enhanced fibre broadband tech to Girvan
BT has rolled out advanced fibre optic broadband technology to the Scottish town of Girvan.
The telecoms giant's Ethernet service allows businesses in the area to choose speeds of between 1Mbps and 10Gbps, depending on their individual requirements.
As well as launching in Girvan, the technology is available in several other parts of Scotland, including Kelso, Peebles and Galashiels.
BT believes the companies most likely to take advantage of the service are those that rely on video, voice and data services, as well as other bandwidth-heavy applications, across more than one property.
Thanks to its flexible nature, the system can expand as a business grows.
The launch of the advanced Ethernet technology has been praised by IT trade body ScotlandIS, which welcomed the enhancements it will bring to the local telecoms infrastructure.
Polly Purvis, executive director of the organisation, said: "Ethernet gives organisations the ability to connect to their sites and customers locally, around the UK and internationally on an extremely secure and reliable network."
