High-rise residential developments on the Isle of Dogs will soon be hooked up to BT's top-tier broadband service.

BT has unveiled plans to launch a trial its up to 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service in several high-rise apartment blocks on the Isle of Dogs in London.

The telecoms giant is set to install the super-fast broadband connections at West India Quay, Canary Riverside and Port East by March 2012, reports the Wharf.

Residents taking part in the pilot scheme will receive download speeds of up to 100Mbps, as well as maximum upload capabilities of 10Mbps.

A spokesman for Openreach, BT's local access network business, explained the Poplar exchange - serving Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs - has already been upgraded to support fibre broadband services.

"We are currently building out fibre-to-the-cabinet technology to cover the majority of premises within the exchange footprint," he added.

Earlier this week, the company announced it will also deploy its up to 100Mbps fibre broadband service in ten exchange areas across England, including Bradwell Abbey, Forest Hill and St Austell.
