Conwy fibre broadband rollout begins
Network provider BT is set to begin rolling out superfast fibre optic broadband to homes and businesses in the Conwy area of Wales.
Residents and companies in the region have been experiencing inadequate internet loading speeds in the past, but thanks to the Superfast Cymru rollout programme, firms with a connection slower than 2Mbps can apply to receive a grant of £1,000 to help to improve this to 100Mbps, the Rhyl Journal reports.
Cabinet Member for Communities at Conwy Council Phil Edwards commented: "The introduction of superfast broadband in Conwy will be a major boost for our economy, our business, tourism offer and our residents."
To begin with, both residential and commercial properties in Kinmel Bay will be connected to the high-speed technology, but all areas of Conwy will soon be covered by the superfast service, including Llandudno, Abergele and Colwyn Bay.
Conwy is one of the final areas to gain access to fibre broadband under the Superfast Cymru rollout scheme, but the Welsh government hopes the country will be one of the most connected locations in the world by 2016.
