Fibrestream boss says BDUK should be abolished
Fibre optic broadband provider Fibrestream has repeated calls for the abolition of Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), the body created to achieve the government's internet access targets.
Writing on the official Fibrestream blog, company boss Guy Jarvis argued that disbanding the organisation is the best way for the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition to succeed in its broadband plans.
He insisted the solution to "sorting out Digital Britain" lies in scrapping BDUK, which he described as "a farcical non-delivery unit of government" and "incredibly inept".
The framework agreement planned by the organisation will only result in "the stifling of the very innovation that Britain urgently needs", Mr Jarvis added.
Earlier this month, the Fibrestream chief hit out at the procurement process for broadband trials funded by BDUK money, claiming innovative private enterprise delivery has been excluded by the system.
BDUK, led by senior civil servant Robert Sullivan, has been tasked with ensuring the UK has the best super-fast broadband network in Europe by 2015.
