Fujitsu says LTE can complement FTTH
Super-fast mobile broadband technology should not be seen as a threat to fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services, according to Fujitsu business consultant Bill McKenzie.
Speaking to Computing, Mr McKenzie insisted that ultra-fast FTTH broadband and 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) mobile services will prove to be complementary.
The introduction of LTE will deliver "different conventions" to the use of wireless technology, he insisted.
Mr McKenzie added: "There will be grey areas where there are small communities that take a different view on what they need."
The Fujitsu consultant went on to state that the speed and cost of FTTH broadband services could be of major benefit to businesses across the UK.
For instance, he said the banking industry could take advantage of the technology, as "latency and speed of transaction is everything".
Earlier this month, BT's group strategy director Sean Williams argued that there is no need to roll out FTTH broadband across the whole of the UK as there is no business case to support universal coverage, ZDNet UK reported.
