Geo delivers vital capacity to B4RN fibre broadband network
Fibre optic network provider Geo Networks has announced it will deliver much-needed capacity to the Broadband for the Rural North (B4RN) project.
Geo will provide dark fibre to B4RN, linking its local distribution infrastructure to the national peering centre at Manchester Telecity.
This will allow homes and businesses in parts of rural Lancashire - including the Forest of Bowland and the Lune Valley - to access super-fast speeds of 1Gbps.
Created to bring fibre optic broadband connectivity to the 'last ten per cent' of Lancashire, comprising locations set to miss out on commercial deployments, B4RN will eventually reach 2,500 properties across an area of 350 sq km.
Chris Smedley, chief executive at Geo, said: "Leasing Geo's dark fibre is a genuine, future-proof investment decision for the community, which will benefit from reliable and flexible high-capacity services."
Earlier this month, B4RN issued a progress update that revealed its fibre broadband deployment is "moving apace", with phase one ducts reaching the village of Quernmore near Lancaster.
