GIA predicts growth for fibre broadband components market
The market for fibre optic broadband components is set to expand in the coming years in line with consumer demand for the technology, according to Global Industry Analysts (GIA).
Continuously growing bandwidth requirements from customers will result in the need for more fibre broadband services and stronger deployments of the technology in developing Asian nations and other countries, the report explained.
With this mind, GIA claimed the worldwide market for fibre optic components will increase to $42 billion (£26 billion) by 2017.
The "insatiable" need for ever-faster transmission speeds is expected to gather momentum as new services are adopted.
"Bleeding edge networking technologies, such as data warehousing, cloud computing [and] server virtualisation ... have immense resource demands, i.e. higher storage needs and bandwidth-hogging applications," the report stated.
Earlier this month, ABI Research revealed that the adoption of fibre optic broadband has been high in recent months because network operators are continuing to roll out the technology, making it the fastest growing part of the fixed-line market.
