KCom sees increasing fibre broadband demand

Monday, February 4th 2013 by Miles Northrop
An increasing number of customers are taking advantage of KCom's super-fast broadband service.

KCom has revealed it is seeing increasing demand for capacity on its fibre optic broadband network.

The east Yorkshire-based internet service provider has already rolled out the technology to 15,000 homes and businesses across the county, with around one-fifth of these signing up so far.

KCom's fibre broadband offering typically delivers speeds of between 45 and 100Mbps, but the top-tier packages provide download rates of up to 350Mbps.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, KCom chief executive Bill Halbert said the company has noticed "significantly increasing demand" for faster broadband connectivity. Commenting on this trend, he explained: "It's a result of internet TV, multiple devices in the home [and] teenage kids using tablets."

Parts of east Yorkshire to have benefited from the rollout so far include Beverley and the villages of Woodmansey, Skidby and Weel.

A number of business parks across the region have also been connected, including Priory Park, Hesslewood Country Office Park, Waterside Park and Livingstone Road.
