Fibre broadband has arrived in the Kilwinning area in North Ayrshire.

Fibre broadband has arrived in the North Ayrshire area of Kilwinning, network provider BT has announced.

The operator has been working to bring the high-speed technology to homes and businesses in the region as part of its nationwide £2.5 billion Openreach broadband rollout project, with more than 6,700 local residential and commercial properties now able to access the superfast service.

Marie Burns from North Ayrshire Council commented: "Superfast fibre broadband in Kilwinning offers huge benefits to local residents and businesses, and will help our local economy to flourish."

For instance, households in the community will now be able to enjoy faster internet loading speeds while using multiple online devices.

Ms Burns added improved connections would hopefully help firms to expand, potentially creating more jobs for local people, providing a valuable contribution to the economy.

Now Kilwinning has been connected to the fibre optic service, all North Ayrshire areas included in BT's rollout can access better broadband, with approximately 41,000 premises covered altogether.

Communities featured in the programme alongside Kilwinning include Beith, Dalry, Irvine, Kilbirnie, Stanecastle and Ardrossan and Saltcoats.
