Lack of high-speed broadband may affect Scottish tourism

A new tourism website is in the pipeline, but experts say it needs to be accessible to all users.

A lack of high-speed cable broadband access could hamper the rollout of a new tourism website for Scotland.

That is according to chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Forum, Iain Herbert, who said mobile connectivity and inadequate web availability have been highlighted as a result of its upcoming launch, the Herald reports.

"There was a lot of conversation about broadband and the fact that Scotland is lagging behind ... it's a real concern," he explained at a Scottish Tourism Week event.

Elements of the new website are expected to include access via mobile applications and optimised content for searches, which could make it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for.

Meanwhile, Stephen Leckie, chair of a tourism taskforce set up by the government and managing director of Creiff Hydro, recently voiced his support for better access to broadband services north of the border.

He said a lack of access is "not good enough", the Scotsman has stated.
