Nairn 'shows high demand for fibre broadband'
The small Highland town of Nairn has shown particularly strong demand for fibre optic broadband, according to BT.
More than a fifth of local homes and businesses are using the service, which went live in the area just over a year ago.
Speaking to an audience of MSPs in Edinburgh, BT Scotland Director Brendan Dick explained that super-fast broadband is received by over 700 customers in Nairn, representing some of the highest uptake of any Scottish community.
"It's a good indication of the kind of appetite that exists for fibre broadband in our Highland communities," he said. "Access to this technology can play a major role in building the competitiveness of local businesses."
The service is now available to around 3,500 properties in Nairn and approximately 610,000 across the whole of Scotland thanks to BT's commercial rollout, which is intending to further increase coverage to two-thirds of UK homes and businesses by the end of next spring.
