Ofcom announces digital communications review
UK industry regulator Ofcom has announced the launch of a new review into the nation's digital communications sector, which it hopes will provide key insight into the future direction of UK telecoms.
The last major industry review was completed in 2005 and since then, there have been several major changes within the industry that Ofcom wishes to address.
Acting Chief Executive for Ofcom Steve Unger stated: "Our new review will mean Ofcom's rules continue to meet the needs of consumers and businesses by supporting competition and investment for years to come."
He added that the boundaries between landline, mobile and broadband customers have "blurred" in recent years and it is now important for these changes to be factored into future regulatory behaviour in the UK.
Fact-finding for the review process is expected to be completed by the summer, with the body's initial conclusions expected to be published by the end of the year.
