Superfast Cornwall brings fibre broadband to Coombe

Monday, June 24th 2013 by Paul France
Coombe has been included in the Superfast Cornwall fibre broadband rollout.

The historic Cornish tin mining village of Coombe has become the latest community to benefit from the county's fibre optic broadband partnership with BT and the EU.

Significant infrastructure-related obstacles stood in the way of bringing faster connectivity to the community, but engineers have now succeeded in rolling out the service to around 80 homes and businesses, reports This Is Cornwall.

The public-private partnership, entitled Superfast Cornwall, is aiming to make fibre broadband available to 95 per cent of premises across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by the end of 2014.

Des Curnow, Cornwall Councillor for the St Stephen-in-Brannel parish, said the introduction of next-generation broadband is a huge positive for the village, which is located in Cornwall's Clay Country.

"Not only will they be able to access internet services much more quickly, but a more reliable, faster service offers opportunities such as working from home and will support those already running businesses in the area," he explained.

Nigel Ashcroft, Superfast Cornwall Programme Director for Cornwall Development Company, added that the engineering team had put in a "tremendous effort" to bring faster broadband to Coombe.
