Survey finds 95% of Milton Keynes people want fibre broadband

Fibre optic broadband demand is high in Milton Keynes, a study has found.

The vast majority of Milton Keynes residents and businesses would welcome access to a fibre optic broadband service, according to a survey from the local council.

Some 95 per cent of respondents said they want super-fast broadband, Milton Keynes Council revealed.

However, while two-thirds of the borough is currently served by a next-generation broadband network, just 83 per cent of people are aware they can sign up for the service.

Half of households in the area use a broadband connection with download speeds of less than 2Mbps, the study discovered.

It also identified online shopping, browsing websites and answering emails as the top three uses for a faster broadband line.

An awareness campaign is set to launch this month to highlight existing levels of fibre optic broadband availability.

At present, much of Milton Keynes is covered by a form of fibre optic data delivery called TPON, which was implemented by the town's planners but is incompatible with modern broadband services.
