TalkTalk signs up 22,000 new fibre broadband customers in Q4
Thousands more customers signed up for TalkTalk's fibre optic broadband service in the final three months of 2012.
In its latest financial results publication, the internet service provider (ISP) revealed that it attracted 22,000 new super-fast broadband subscribers during the quarter, taking the total customer base to 52,000.
Despite this upturn, TalkTalk admitted that overall demand for fibre optic broadband remains "modest", with this situation expected to continue until the advantages of high bandwidth become clear to customers.
However, the company insisted that some customers - such as those that live in a fibre-enabled area and are interested in signing up for TalkTalk TV - would still "derive clear value" from subscribing to the service.
"We remain actively engaged with Ofcom and government to promote greater competition in fibre through a tighter regulatory framework," the ISP added.
Rival provider BT reported greater uptake of fibre broadband in the final quarter of 2012, with around 250,000 new connections registered.
