Superfast fibre broadband will be coming to Uttoxeter.

Residents and businesses based in the Staffordshire town of Uttoxeter are set to gain access to superfast fibre optic broadband, it has been announced.

This is after Staffordshire County Council pledged to invest £8 million in rolling out the high-speed technology throughout the area, a sum which has been match-funded by Broadband Delivery UK and added to with a further £12.47 million from network provider BT.

In addition, £1.68 million has been allocated to Staffordshire to provide a fibre broadband connection to parts of the county not covered by other rollout programmes, Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure Mark Winnington told Uttoxeter News.

The Councillor added: "In Uttoxeter the project will cover both Uttoxeter itself and Uttoxeter rural, with areas of Marchington due to go live this September. The project runs until 2016 and other areas of Uttoxeter will go live during this time."

However, he added exact dates cannot yet be given, but overall, 97 per cent of homes and businesses should be covered by the superfast technology rollout by the end of 2016.
