Verwood and Three Legged Cross to get fibre broadband
The Salisbury communities of Verwood and Three Legged Cross are set to gain access to superfast fibre broadband this summer as part of a regional rollout programme.
Superfast Dorset is aiming to connect the entire county to the service, with speeds of at least 24Mbps planned for the majority of homes and businesses in the area, the Salisbury Journal reports.
The rollout programme has begun work to upgrade the first green roadside cabinets in the county to allow both residential and commercial properties to access the high-speed service by replacing old copper wires with brand new fibre optic cables.
Benefits of fibre broadband include faster download and upload speeds as well as an improved ability to stream video clips and films.
Alongside Verwood and Three Legged Cross, the communities of Bridport, Charmouth, Chideock, Ferndown and Weymouth are also set to be connected to the service as part of the first phase of the Superfast Dorset project.
It is hoped that around 95 per cent of properties in the area will be able to access high-speed fibre broadband by the end of 2016.
